My name is Meghan Barker and I am from the beautiful state of Colorado! I am currently pursuing degrees in Environmental Studies and Political Science at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and hope to go into wilderness preservation or natural lands protection after I graduate! God has showed me that Creation knows no bounds and that He is present everywhere. I am ecstatic to take my passion for God and the environment to Glacier Bay in Alaska, where I know I can help people to see His light in the wildness of the “The Last Frontier.” When I am not exploring outside, I can be found listening to country music, making DIY crafts from Pinterest, and hanging out with friends!
While singing and vocal worship has always been one of my favorite parts of any church service, today’s song selection really spoke to me, and perfectly summed up exactly what I have gotten out of my time here in Glacier Bay.
Last week, I had my coolest Alaskan adventure yet. It wasn’t the whales breaching of Point Gustavus, or the bull moose we saw right outside of our front door in employee housing, or the most beautiful midnight sun. The most awesome thing I have experienced was a waterfall just outside the park.
There have been so many unexpected twists and turns in my time up in Alaska so far; creating a Glacier Bay Lodge Running Team was certainly not one of them!
The ACMNP team has been here for about a week and a half and already we have experienced so much of God’s work and had so much fun exploring Creation.
When I applied for ACMNP in February, I was flipping through the pictures on the park profiles and was overwhelmed with the beauty that is all over this country. When I came across Glacier Bay and Denali, I automatically knew that those two would be on my top preferences for placement this summer.
Since I didn’t get to attend the training conference, I decided to write a sample post of the top 5 things I am going to do when I get to Glacier Bay later this month!
