What advice can you give to next year's team?
The best advice we can give next year's staff is to totally turn yourself over to your awesome God. With Him everything is possible, and without Him nothing is possible. This was our motto from the get go! Life on the island is not easy. Working is not always a breeze. Doing the ministry takes work. You are here to serve your God, not to vacation on a tropical island. Remember you are a guest to this island. Perspective is important!
In what ways have you grown this season?
We can say we have grown in many ways this past season on St. John. Perhaps the biggest growth has come in our dependence on our awesome God. He was there for us each step of the way. His presence was felt in our worship preparation and execution, in our relational ministry, in our jobs, and in just living out our daily lives on the island. All that we did and all trials we encountered we put to prayer. He answered all of our requests and concerns. We will go home closer as a couple and having a closer relationship with our God.
What did you learn through the process of leading worship services?
We gained an appreciation of the work done by our clergy and church staff in preparation for Sunday morning services. It was a bit of a challenge to come up with topics for homilies and then research the topics and then put into a homily form. Although challenging, both of us absolutely loved this part of our assignment. God's presence was very evident, especially for me as I am not an organizer of speeches or an orator. I still marvel at my ability to talk for ten to fifteen minutes to a group of folks attending our worship service on a Sunday morning. It definitely was the Holy Spirit working through me.
