Gordon D. Compton, 70, passed away on Sunday, January 26, at his home in Freeport, ME. He was born in Bellingham, WA, on December 9, 1943, to Ethel and Hosea Compton. Gordon graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 1967 and worked in the retail business industry for many years. He also graduated with a M. Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary where he went on to work and serve as Deputy Director of A Christian Ministry in the National Parks (ACMNP) for over 20 years. He recently served as the pastor at Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church and Stockholm Lutheran Church in Maine. Gordon was known for making people laugh and comforting people when they cried. He enjoyed nature and hiking. He was also an avid fan of all sports and followed the collegiate players throughout their professional careers, and particularly loved Boston and Seattle teams. He loved with his whole heart and he will continue to be loved and missed by all whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his daughter, Grace, her mother, Alice, his sister, Lorna and brother-in-law Doug and their children, his stepdaughter, Barbara-Anne and her husband Calvin, his stepson, Ernie and his fiancé Audrey, and the many friends he has made.
A service and fellowship will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Brunswick, Maine on Saturday, February 1st at 1pm. A memorial service will be held in Maine on the last weekend of June. Location and details to be decided.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to A Christian Ministry in the National Parks (ACMNP) or the Lutheran World Relief fund.
